Board Overview

The board Overview is best for getting a quick, snapshot of progress. It displays key details such as overall status, budget totals, tracked time, estimates, and other essential information.

So, if you want a broader view of your task board or need to manage a project within it, the Board Overview can help you stay organized. Let’s explore more.

When to Use Board Overview

The Board Overview is useful in two main scenarios: project overview and continuous task management. It provides insights into:

  • What the board is about
  • Key dates (start and due)
  • The overall status and progress of work
  • Milestones and key files

Project Overview

When a board is used to manage projects, you’ll see key details like start and due dates, as well as the overall status. This information is also reflected in views like Portfolio overview  and Gantt view. You can add a rich text description for important project details and status updates.

The item progress chart provides a quick snapshot of how the project is progressing, helping you assess if you’re on track. We recommend grouping the chart by Status for clarity.

Continuous Task Management

Boards that are used for ongoing task management, the overview lets you document work principles and guidelines. It helps to track team performance over time – are they improving or not? The item progress chart, grouped by status, acts as a cumulative flow diagram to identify delays or performance issues.

Note: if the start date is not set when creating new items in Gantt, all new items will be scheduled to end on this date.
  • Due Date: It represents the completion deadline for the board and is used as a visual cue in Gantt, Timeline, and Workload views.

You can download several files at once from here, as well as from the Attachments view — useful when handing a document set to a client or archiving a finished project. See storage management for ways to keep file storage under control.

Why Is the Board Overview Missing?

By default, the Overview is included in every new board you create. However, if you’ve created a workspace from a template, some boards may not have an Overview right away. In this case, you can easily add it by clicking the “+” button in the top panel.
