Profitability Report

The Profitability report is best for tracking how much money you’re earning on projects. Unlike the Time and Cost report that focuses on individual hours and expenses, this report considers all available time data, calculates the total cost, and compares it with the budget.

Profitability can be measured at different levels of detail using flexible grouping options, such as by project, stage, task, and others.

Key Metrics in the Profitability Report

The Profitability report will show you:

  • Tracker: The total tracked time for the selected period.
  • Estimate: The total estimated time for an item or group of items.
  • Total Cost: The cost calculated by multiplying tracked time by users’ hourly rates.
  • Budget: The amount planned or billed in monetary terms.
  • Profit: The remaining amount after subtracting total cost from the budget.
  • Margin: The profitability level of each item or group.

Note: Total Cost, Profit, and Margin will be empty if hourly rates aren’t set. And you also customize other item-related fields as needed.

Filtering

You can apply different filters based on item data directly from the filter menu. For example, if you want to view specific project boards, select the “Boards and Rows” filter option and choose only the relevant ones.

Grouping

Grouping allows you to organize and categorize data based on specific attributes like boards and rows, parent items, issue type, and more. You can group by two levels, with a few exceptions.

Boards vs Boards and Rows

There are two types of groupings for boards. If you’re working on small to medium-sized projects, you may not use rows frequently, so grouping by Boards alone will be fine.

However, if you use rows for sub-projects or standalone projects, and boards as project groups, grouping by both board and row will provide more accurate profitability data.

Note: When grouped by parent item, second-level grouping will be disabled to prevent data duplication.
